Hosting a Tasting Party
The essentials are…
-
Glassware: good glassware really makes a difference.
-
Note sheets for everyone or have them bring their wine journals
-
Have some food: cheese, crackers, bread, fruit, etc.
-
Water for drinking and rinsing you glass.
-
Spit buckets, optional of course!
-
Some great music, don’t forget that!
-
A good table or area where everyone can gather round.
Wine Tasting Party. A great way to get together with friends and family and enjoy the flavors of your own personal wine tasting. We can design the tasting to your liking, i.e. Cabernet tasting, Pinot Noir tasting, Australian tasting, etc. , give you the our suggested order of tasting, and notes about each wine and producer. It’s a great way to enjoy the varied flavors of different wines from all over. And remember, it’s all about having fun!
Blind Wine Tasting. This takes the previous to the next level and truly challenges the palates of your guests. This is a fun way to exhibit a selection of different varietals or regions, and even introduce different wines to your friends!
Your guest may fall in love with something that they would not have usually bought.
And oh….we do supply you with the necessary brown paper bags.
Horizontal tasting is where different wines of the same vintage (year) are tasted. This is a good way of determining which producer or vineyard you prefer.
Vertical tasting is the same wine from different vintages. This is where vintage variations and the effects of bottle aging are clearly seen. An example would be to compare a '94 pinot noir against a '97 pinot noir from the same winery.
The Stand Off Tasting where wines of one variety and region are paired against wines of the same variety but from a different region. (For example: Bordeaux from France vs. the Cabernets of California or Shiraz from Australia vs. Syrahs from Rhone.)
